James son of Alphaeus

A name on every list, and a man Jesus chose on purpose.

The story

  1. Chosen by name

Jesus called the ones he wanted, and James son of Alphaeus was among them. He was sent out with the others to preach (Matthew 10:1-7).

  2. Scattered at the arrest

When Jesus was seized in Gethsemane, all the disciples left him and fled. James was not the exception.

  3. Gathered in prayer

After the ascension he is named in the upper room, devoting himself to prayer with the others while they waited for the Spirit.

Key verses
