“You are the man!”

(ESV)

Introduction

Nathan was a prophet at David's court. When David wanted to build a house for God, Nathan first said go ahead, then came back the next morning with God's answer: no, God would build David a house, a dynasty that would last forever.

After David took Bathsheba and had Uriah killed, Nathan was sent to confront the most powerful man in Israel. He told a story about a rich man who stole a poor man's only lamb. David burned with anger and said the man deserved to die. Nathan said, You are the man. David confessed, and Nathan told him he was forgiven. Years later Nathan helped make sure Solomon became king.

Nathan loved David enough to tell him the truth. Who loves you enough to say “you are the man”? Do you let them?
