Mordecai

A Jew at the king's gate who would not bow to Haman, and told Esther this was her moment.

The story

1. Raising Esther Esth 2:5-11

   He adopts his orphaned cousin and watches over her.

2. The forgotten plot Esth 2:19-23

   He saves the king's life; no one rewards him.

3. He would not bow Esth 3:1-6

   His refusal enrages Haman, who plans to destroy the Jews.

4. Sackcloth and counsel Esth 4:1-17

   He mourns and urges Esther to go to the king.

5. Honored Esth 6:1-11; 10:3

   The king honors him, and he becomes second in the kingdom.
