James

A son of thunder who asked for a throne and was given a cup.

The story

1. Leaves the nets Mark 1:19-20

   Jesus calls him from mending nets, and he leaves his father in the boat with the hired men.

2. One of the three Mark 5:37; 9:2

   He sees Jairus's daughter raised and Jesus transfigured on the mountain.

3. Fire from heaven Luke 9:51-56

   A Samaritan village refuses Jesus, and James and John offer to call down fire. Jesus rebukes them.

4. Asks for the seat Mark 10:35-41

   He and John ask for the places at Jesus' right and left. The other ten are angry.

5. Asleep in the garden Mark 14:33-50

   Brought close in Gethsemane, he sleeps three times, then flees with the rest.

6. First to die Acts 12:1-2

   After Pentecost, Herod has him killed with the sword. He drinks the cup Jesus spoke of.
