Study together · The Cast
Isaac
The quiet son between two loud lives, who dug wells and kept moving rather than fight.
The story
- Child of laughter
Born when Abraham is 100 and Sarah is ninety. He is the promise in the flesh.
- Bound on Moriah
He carries the wood up the hill and asks, “where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” He is bound on the altar, and God provides a ram.
- Comforted by Rebekah
Grieving his mother, he walks in the field at evening and sees the camels coming. He marries Rebekah and loves her.
- Wells and a lie
In Gerar he calls Rebekah his sister out of fear. Later, when his wells are taken, he moves on and digs again until there is room.
- The blind blessing
He plans to bless Esau and is deceived into blessing Jacob. He trembles violently, then confirms it: “Yes, and he shall be blessed.”
Key verses
